A cleaner receives scanned japanese images of the manga and removes all the japanese text and makes it presentable for the next step in the scanlation process. Spoiler: Description Status: Open Requirements: Adobe Photoshop Topaz plugins WorkLoad 25-60 pages per chapter depending per series Can take a few hours to a couple of days depending on level of experience Deadline: One week per chapter is preferred but can be flexible Training available: Yes, training is available Example: (Pending) Notes: Redrawing skills needed but not pertinent. A redrawer is an extension of a cleaner. They remove the SFX (sound effect) japanese text from the raws or cleans. Usually redrawing colored covers or two page spreads as well. Spoiler: Description Status: Open Requirements: Adobe Photoshop Drawing Tablet (Optional) Workload: 5-15 pages per chapter depending per series Can take a few hours to a couple of days depending on level of experience May include black/white as well as colored page redraws Deadline: One week per chapter is preferred but can be flexible Training available: No, training is not available at the moment. Example: (Pending) Notes: Despite having less pages to work with, this role is very time-consuming. A proofreader takes the translated script and makes sure there are no spelling mistakes, grammar and syntax are correct. Checks if the script lines up correctly with the raws and if there are any missing translations. Spoiler: Description Status: Open Requirements: Microsoft Word or Google Docs Proficient in English Workload: 1-3 chapters a week Deadline: 2 days per chapter Training available: Yes. Example: (Pending) Notes: Although considered the easiest role, we'll need someone who will be able to keep up with the chapters as soon as they are translated. Our translators are machines. A typesetter takes the cleans and proofread script and applies the text on photoshop. Workload: 20-60 pages per chapter depending on the series Deadline: 1 week per chapter Training available: Yes. Example: (Pending) Notes: This role is more than just putting text on the page, some series require a lot of creativity. Especially when choosing SFX (sound effects). An editor combines the role of a cleaner and typesetter. Knowledge in both roles is pertinent. Workload is pretty heavy, so not for ones with a weak heart! A raw provider by buying or receives the raws in order to scan them for the team. A translator takes Japanese/Korean raws and writes the translation in script format for the team. A quality checker is the last step in the scanlation process before releasing. Able to work fast is a must.
